    Hi, I would like to enquire more about the Liposuction. The questions as follows:

    1)When can I regain intensive physical exercises after the procedure.
    2)When will I be able to get the procedure done? Is there a few visits prior to the procedure for doctor’s consultation and etc?
    3)Can I still go for the procedure as I am having few injuries sustained from road traffic accident as well as over-strained injury. The area of the procedure would only be on the tummy area, which is non-injured area.

    I gave birth to my third child through C Section (all three of my babies are through C section). I would like to remove fats from my abdomen accumulated through the child birth. Could you recommend a good surgeon and clinic to have this vaser selection done? With the recent death of the CEO which was known to be operated by a GP, is it better to have a plastic surgeon to carry this op? Please recommend a good clinic with reasonable pricing.

    Hi Leena,

    The recent death of the CEO was an unfortunate event and is probably the 1st case in Singapore. As there is an ongoing investigation by the authorities, we are not certain of the actual cause of death and would not be able to comment further. Suffice to say that death from liposuction is not common but such risk exsit, not unlike other form of surgeris performed under sedation and anesthesia. There are risk just driving a car on a road, but there are things you can do to reduce those risk such as putting on the seat belt, obeying traffic rules and driving within speed limit. Likewise, there are ways to reduce risk of liposuction. This include choosing an experienced doctor with the relevant training in liposuction and having it performed in a accredited day surgery centre or hospital instead of a common doctor’s office as it may not be equipped to handle some emergencies, especially if you are having more than 1litre of fats remove. There are of course many other medical pointers and your doctor is in a better position to advise you accordingly.

    We are in the opinion that safety, experience of the surgeon and aftercare is more important. Because you may end up with less than desirable results in the hands of an inexperience surgeon, etc. These will add to the end costs such as the need for more post-operation care, revision, etc.

    We advise our readers to compare apple to apple in shopping for a clinic and consider the safety factor over the costs first.

Urgent Safety Update
Latest Guideline by MOH. For large- volume liposuction consisting of more than 1 litre of total fat, the procedure should be performed in a Ambulatory Day Surgery Centre or Hospital setting recognized by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

MOH has informed all doctors that parties who fail to comply with requirements "..... shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction" and subjected to disciplinary action.
